Mary Lou Walker

Mary Lou (Osborn) Walker of Kankakee went to be with the Lord and her loved ones peacefully on April 21, 2025 in Bourbonnais, IL at the age of 89 surrounded by her family. Mary Lou Walker is survived by her children, Stanley Allison {Linda}, Cindy (Allison) McCasky, Jeffery Allison, Julie (Allison) Boudreau {Daniel} and step child Janet (Walker) Kane {Hugh}; grandchildren Jacob Allison, Jessica Allison, Matthew Allison, Andrew Allison, Stephanie Allison, Noah Peters, Nicole Smith, Nicholas Sorensen, Chad Sorensen, Sara Sorensen, Patience Kerns, Joshua Allison, Danielle Boudreau and Jarrett Boudreau, along with 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband John T. Walker; her parents Russell and Ruby (Lichlyter) Osborn; her siblings Wanda (Osborn) Broadway and Russell “Sonny” Osborn; children Russell (Dwayne) Allison, Theresa (Allison) Sullivan and step children Margaret (Walker) Shannon and John Walker; along with her grandson Jordan Allison, and great grandchildren Kameron Allison and Ada Peters. Mary Lou Walker was born on March 20th, 1936 in Danville, IL to Russell Osborn, son of Wesley and Minnie Stella (Hughs) Osborn and Ruby (Lichlyter) Osborn, daughter of Wesley and Loretta Rose (Moore) Lichlyter. She was their first born. She graduated from Rankin High School in 1954 and married her high school sweetheart. Over the next 9 years, the couple welcomed 6 children into their home. She was a skilled nurse for over 50 years, specalizing in surgery and obstetrics. She helped deliver the very first child born at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee, Illinois in 1964. She has even had a child named after her for her heroic delivery outside during a blizzard. She married John Walker in 1977 and found true love and joy in a marriage in Christ. She was a generous servant of the lord who loved to garden and cook and is especially known for her desserts. To have one of her cookies or brownies, was to taste love. She was an active and dedicated member of her Church, working with missionaries, volunteering and leading Sunday school, and using her beautiful soprano voice to sing in the choir. She is remembered as an endlessly loving mother and grandmother. She was the glue that held her family together with descedents living from one coast to the other. Now her work here is done and she has finally gone home. Remember me in your heart; Your thoughts, and your memories, Of the times we loved, The times we cried, The times we fought, The times we laughed. For if you always think of me, I will never have gone. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday April 22nd from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Schreffler Funeral Home on W Court Street in Kankakee, Illinois. The funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday April 23rd at 10:00am following an additional short visitation at Calvary Bible Church on Armor Road in Bradley, Illinois. Gravesite services will immediately follow to Rossville Illinois Cemetery on Route 1. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary Lou’s life. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family would like to thank Uplifted Care and Citadel in Bourbonnais for their compassionate care.
